Often the forgotten element within an organisation, adoption of an effective information security awareness and education programme is a critical part of ISO 17799 / ISO 27001. An effective campaign can ensure that all personnel are aware of the information security threats and concerns they are faced with during the course of their normal work and enable them to understand the important role they play in helping to protect the information assets within the organisation. It also demonstrates management commitment to information security and can be used to ensure that employees are aware of their statutory, legal and contractual requirements, such as those required under Data Protection and Privacy of Personal Information, Computer Misuse, Software Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights, amongst others.
